Chris Flynn and Tim Kennedy Join White & Case as Partners in Sydney

Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Project Development and Finance Practice with the addition of partners Chris Flynn and Tim Kennedy in Sydney.

“In recent years we have seen an increasing cross-over between traditional oil & gas companies and renewable power, as energy transition shifts the agenda globally,” said White & Case partner Mark Castillo-Bernaus, Head of the Global Development and Finance Practice. “The addition of Chris and Tim, with their experience in both the traditional energy and the renewable power sectors, dovetails perfectly with our clients’ energy transition focus. Their arrival will enhance our offering to support oil & gas companies looking to accelerate their energy transition, investors seeking clean energy investment opportunities and governments looking to renewable and other energy sources for their power needs.”

Flynn advises domestic and international companies and governments on energy and resources transactions and projects, particularly in the upstream, LNG and power sectors, and on public international law and energy security matters. He has experience across Australia, as well as in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Flynn joins White & Case from Gilbert + Tobin, where he was a partner, head of their energy and resources group and a member of the firm’s board.

Kennedy advises domestic and international companies, governments, sponsors and investors on transactions and projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors, with a focus on power, renewables and oil & gas, including LNG, and the transition to lower emission energy options. Kennedy joins White & Case from Gilbert + Tobin, where he was a partner.

“Chris has extensive experience advising on oil & gas opportunities and renewable energy projects, particularly LNG, offshore wind and renewables-based hydrogen,” said White & Case partner Andrew Clark, Regional Section Head Asia-Pacific EIPAF & Disputes. “Tim is a high calibre partner with experience advising on market leading energy transition projects. Together, the partners will add material depth to our energy and power capabilities in Australia and more broadly across Asia-Pacific as we continue to grow our offering for clients in these sectors.”

Partner Donald Baker, a member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, added: “We have significantly expanded our offering to our energy and power clients in Asia-Pacific over the last three years through partner additions and promotions to our top-tier project development and finance, disputes and M&A practices, most recently with the arrival of international arbitration partner Lee Carroll in Melbourne. Our team advises clients on the full life cycle of their projects. Our addition of Chris and Tim further bolsters our leading Asia-Pacific energy and power capabilities and also strengthens our global push to provide expert support to our clients through the energy transition.”
